When dealing with infertility or subfertility (a terme preferred by Dr. JJ), there are always two people involved. And that means the issue may lie with either you, your partner, or both.

As a result, if you’re experiencing difficulty with conception, it makes sense to examine both of you. Not only can this help you discover any underlying health concerns in both of you, it also helps reduce any blame or guilt.

If you’re dealing with difficulty conceiving a child, Dr. JJ can help.

Here’s what you can expect from working with Dr. JJ.

Naturopath Infertility Assessment

During your first visit to Dr. JJ’s clinic, you and your partner both will get a chance to sit down with Dr. JJ and get any questions you have answered.

From there, Dr. JJ will assess a number of different health factors which can affect your fertility. These includes:

  • Any current health complaints
  • Your medical history, including past surgeries, illnesses, infections, etc.
  • Family history
  • Current and past use of medication & natural supplements
  • The health of your organs, including your heart, lung, ears, eyes, kidney, bladder, etc.
  • Any existing blood & diagnostic tests (eg. hormone panel, CBC, CRP, AMH, ultrasound, sperm analysis, etc)
  • Nutrition deficiencies
  • Current lifestyle indicators (eg. drug/alcohol/tobacco/cannabis use, exercise)
  • Full physical examination

Some of the factors Dr. JJ will examine in males include:

  • Varicocele
  • Cystocele
  • History of undescended testicles
  • History of mumps
  • Previous infections
  • Previous cancers
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Prostate function

And in females, Dr. JJ will examine:

  • Menstrual cycle frequency and symptoms
  • Absence of menstrual cycle
  • PMS
  • PCOS
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Ovarian cysts
  • History of chlamydia or gonorrhea
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease

You may need to pursue additional testing as well, including

  • AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) for ovarian reserve
  • Sperm analysis
  • Sperm DNA fragmentation analysis,
  • Detailed male and female saliva/urine hormone analysis
  • Antibodies (antinuclear (ANA), anti-phospholipid, anticardiolipin, anti-gliadin, anti-tissue
transglutaminase (tTGA), anti-endomysium (EMA), deaminated gliadin peptide (DGP), anti-
    sperm)
  • IgG food allergy testing
  • Environmental testing (heavy metals, solvents, organophosphates and chlorinated pesticides, PCBs) and others.

Some of these tests can be ordered by Dr. JJ, while others may be ordered through your GP or through a fertility specialist.

From there, you’ll get a treatment plan designed to help you deal with the issues we’ve uncovered and help boost your and your partner’s fertility, with the goal of helping you conceive a child.

Treatment Methods

Depending on the issues uncovered during your initial assessment, your treatment plan may vary significantly from that of others. However, it may include any of the following items.

  • IV therapy
  • Vitamin, mineral, and/or herbal supplementation
  • Acupuncture
  • Exercise
  • Lifestyle changes
  • Diet
  • Detoxification

There are many studies indicating that nutritional deficiencies, illness, toxin exposure and other factors can all influence conception.

Low levels of probiotics, coenzyme Q10, selenium and other vitamins and minerals have been associated with poor conception rates.  Nutritional supplementation is key to improve conception rates.
