Dr. JJ in practice

Dr. JJ is a Naturopathic Doctor, researcher and published author. He practices naturopathic medicine, IV (intravenous therapies), mesotherapy, acupuncture and anti-aging therapies.

Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a primary healthcare profession that focuses on prevention and uses natural methods. It is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies and gentle techniques.

Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are general practitioners of natural health care and employ a wide range of therapies to create a preventative, restorative and individualized approach to health care. These therapies include detoxification, clinical nutrition, botanical (herbal) medicine, acupuncture and Asian medicine, homeopathic medicine, physical treatments, lifestyle assessment and counseling. NDs are specialists in preventive health care, integrating scientific knowledge with traditional healing wisdom.

The principles of naturopathic medicine...

The following tenets govern the practice of naturopathic medicine:

  1. First, do no harm ( Primum non nocere )
Use methods and medicines that minimize the risk of harmful side effects, using the least force necessary to diagnose and treat.
Avoid, when possible, the harmful suppressing of symptoms.
Acknowledge, respect and work with the individual's self-healing process.
  2. Identify and treat the causes ( Tolle causam )
The naturopathic doctor seeks to identify and to remove the underlying causes of illness, rather than to merely eliminate or suppress symptoms.
  3. Doctor as teacher ( Docere )
Naturopathic doctors share information and knowledge with their patients and encourage self-responsibility for health.
  4. Treat the whole person
Naturopathic doctors treat each patient by taking into account individual physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social factors.
  5. Emphasize prevention
Naturopathic doctors emphasize the prevention of disease by assessing risk factors, heredity and susceptibility to disease and making appropriate interventions in partnership with their patients to prevent illness.
  6. Support the healing power of the body (vis medicatrix naturae)
Naturopathic medicine recognizes an inherent self-healing process in the person which is ordered and intelligent.

Naturopathic doctors act to identify and remove obstacles to healing and recovery, and to facilitate and increase this inherent self-healing process.

IV (intravenous)Therapies

"Nothing beats the power or brut strength of Nutritional IV therapy."

IVs go right to the source as they bypass all the inadequacies and malfunctions inside the body to work on the problems fast. It represents by far the most streamlined method for treating nutritional shortcomings. Ideal for people who cannot swallow pills or have a compromised digestive tract.

Nutritional IV Therapies hydrate the body and detoxify liver and lymphatic system, thereby causing you to feel better faster while helping the body to work more efficiently.

IV therapies typically consist of a healthy, safe dose of natural vitamins, amino acids and minerals delivered directly into the patientŐs circulatory system. IV therapies are used in the treatment and prevention of cancer, arthritis, chronic fatigue, colds and flu.

Mesotherapy

Pioneered by the French physician Dr. Michel Pistor in 1952, mesotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that is widely used in Europe and elsewhere to treat various injuries and medical conditions.

This medical specialty targets problem areas with microinjections of conventional or homeopathic medicines, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Tiny "medicinal bullets" are delivered directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of skin) that are highly specific to the condition being treated. Among its many applications, mesotherapy can be used for the following:

Mesotherapy ( Mesotherapie) was recognized by the French National Academy of Medicine in 1986 as an integral part of traditional medicine. Each day, thousands of doctors worldwide use Mesotherapy to help tens of thousands of patients.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used to treat a variety of illnesses for more than 2,000 years. Acupuncture is a component of the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) system of medicine. As such, a diagnosis based on TCM is generally made prior to the administration of acupuncture needles. This TCM diagnosis, which is much different than diagnosis in Western medicine, is based on a practitioner's observation (pulse and tongue) and a thorough patient interview. The patient interview is useful for:

Once an assessment is made, a series of acupuncture points is selected to improve the balance of yin and yang, to harmonize a deficient or excess condition, and to nourish the organ or channel involved in the disease process. Stimulation of the selected acupoints (situated along 'meridians' in the body) by inserting needles is believed to promote the flow of energy through the system, and thereby restore the body's balance.

Needling
Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into specific acupoints found on the body meridians. Manipulation of the needle following insertion can assist with moving the qi, and can help to nourish or sedate the channel. The needles used are thin and are felt mostly when they first touch the skin. All acupuncture needles used are single-use disposable needles.

Qi
The theory of the channels is fundamental to the understanding of acupuncture. There are 365 mapped acupuncture points along the 12 major channels, as well as over a thousand extra points found on the hand, ear and scalp. Qi (pronounced "chi") is the energy moved through the channels and the movement of qi helps to balance yin and yang, balance an excess or deficiency in the body, and nourish the internal organs.

Acupuncture has been used in connection with the following conditions:

Anti-Aging

Feeling and looking young forever is possible! Ask yourself these two questions: 1) To what age do you want to live? and 2) How healthy do you want to be when you get older? Dr. JJ can help you to accomplish your goals by making positive adjustments.

Aging may be inevitable, but it can be slowed down drastically by making adjustments to lifestyle, dietary habits, supplementation, mesotherapy, IV therapies and acupuncture. Just because you're in your 40s, doesn't mean you cannot look and feel like you are in your 30s.

Licensing

Naturopathic doctors in Ontario are provincially regulated with standardized credential requirements. Registered (sometimes called licensed) naturopathic doctors are required to complete three years of pre-medical studies at a recognized university followed by four years of full-time training at an accredited college of naturopathic medicine comprehensive and rigorous education program. This four-year program incorporates both classroom and hands-on clinical training. After graduation, NDs must pass intensive regulatory board examinations that are standardized across North America, before qualifying for registration.

Health insurance

Most people are unaware of their employee benefits package. Most private insurance plans include annual coverage for naturopathic medical and acupuncture treatments.

Insurance coverage
Naturopathic medicine (including IV therapies) and acupuncture are covered under most extended health insurance plans. We encourage you to research your benefits plan and take advantage of the health services available to you.
